VicinityThe smallish suburb of Darrenwood lies just west of Linden behind Cresta Centre, a series of avenues and crescents that date back to the 1960s, a pretty leafy suburb that manages to remain pretty obscure and out of the way, despite its proximity to the N1. Darrenwood is also fairly close to the Johannesburg Botanic Gardens and Emmerentia Dam and a wonderful visit at any time of the week. The land on which the Botanic Gardens is situated was once a farm that dates back to 1853, called Braamfontein, and today is a popular spot, particularly over weekends when locals picnic on the green slopes surrounding the dam, throw frizbees or stroll their dogs. Cresta Centre is one of the northern suburbs’ largest malls that has received a series of facelifts and extensions and is a veritable feast of shopping as a result. There’s a Barnyard Theatre here, just moments away from Darrenwood; a type of theatre, true South Africa style, where one can meet with friends, take your own food or eat there and enjoy an evening of musicals, rock shows or live bands that will get your feet tapping and your hips swaying. The suburb is very close to numerous sports clubs and bowling clubs, and just a couple of blocks away is the bird sanctuary at Victory Park, and to the South the Albert’s Farm Sanctuary. Randpark and Windsor Golf courses are within a kilometre away. Darrenwood is just three minutes drive away from the N1 Highway. There are a number of good schools in the vicinity of Darrenwood including some excellent private schools Closest Suburbs to Darrenwood / Cresta Blackheath, Linden, Robin Hills, Northcliff, Randpark, Roosevelt Park, Fontainebleau, Fairland, Parkhurst, Craighall Park, Greenside, Weltevreden Park, Bordeaux, Bromhof, Craighall, Parktown North, Ferndale, Westdene, Boskruin, Melville, Parkview, Hyde Park.

Some useful information regarding Randburg located in Gauteng

Chas Everitt International - Property in Randburg

Randburg is a large town in Gauteng, South Africa. Once a separate municipality, its municipal government has since become a part of the City of Johannesburg.

Randburg has over 32 suburbs, most of them residential. It is an upmarket area filled with many family friendly entertainment facilities and park like areas. The residents in Randburg tend to be more affluent than most Johannesburg dwellers. Here one will witness large lavish homes and an abundance of boutiques. In fact, Randburg is well known for its plethora of shopping centres and entertainment areas, including the Brightwater Commons, Cresta Centre, NorthGate, Sanlam Shopping Centre and various others.

Another fantastic attraction is the Lion Park. This superb lion park features 4 prides of lions of various ages as well as a number of rhino and other herbivores. The lions are enclosed in a high-security area while the greater park area is given over to the other animals. For the adventurous, why not take your photographs with the gorgeous lion cubs?

Formerly known as the Randburg Waterfront, Brightwater Commons is one of Johannesburg's better-known entertainment, restaurant and shopping centres. The Brightwater Commons is designed around the concept of an urban shopping space. The refurbishment of the Brightwater Commons demonstrates a transformation from a stark harbor and warehouse development into a welcoming small town streetscape. It is well-known for its wide selection of restaurants which offer a variety of cuisines. It also hosts a large cinema complex, a mini-golf course, a laser-paintball arena as well as a broad selection of specialty stores. It is definitely an awesome entertainment centre well worth a visit!

The total exterior component of this refurbishment comprises soft landscaping, paved walkways, a village green and a redesigned watercourse, together creating a totally new environmental and urban experience.

The centre now boasts rolling lawns with leisurely walking paths cutting across, a Commons with a performance stage set to the fore of these (where many of musical events take place), as well as a unique tented promotional court that can accommodate up to 40 exhibitors under cover.

The Brightwater Commons has been designed for a sense of wellbeing creating an enabling framework for spontaneous social interaction. The visitor is encircled by trees and breezes, water and sunlight.

Randburg is truly a lovely and beautiful suburb where families and friends can enjoy fantastic days together. Whether its fun and entertainment or just pure relaxation you are looking for, there is something here for everyone.

The centre of Randburg is situated at the junction of Jan Smuts and Hendrik Verwoed avenues. The centre of Randburg houses the Randburg Mall and the Randburg Shopping Centre, two large centers that sit astride Oak Avenue.
